Police: Man Who Claimed He Was Mugged for $500,000 in Diamonds Made It Up
Dearborn police obtained an arrest warrant on felony charges against Yakov Aminov and now need the public's help in finding him.

Dearborn police are looking for Yakov Aminov, a jewelry merchant who claimed he was assaulted Thursday in the Fairlane Mall by two young males, who then allegedly robbed of nearly $500,000 in diamonds.
Police determined the robbery never took place, according to a news release, and sent a request to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office for a warrant for Aminov’s arrest on making a false report of a felony to police.
The offense is punishable by up to four years in prison and a fine of $2,000.

“While making false police reports is a crime and can result in a misuse of police resources, this type of reporting attacks the image and sense of security for the entire community,” Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad said.
