Prosecutors: 'Bad' Samaritan Carjacks 88-Year-Old Stuck in Snow

Prosecutors are calling a 55-year-old Michigan woman a “bad Samaritan.”

Here’s why:

The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office said in an email to the Detroit Free Press that Valerie Johnson, 55, of Lansing allegedly stopped to help an 88-year-old woman whose car was stuck in the snow about 4 p.m. Saturday.

Prosecutors alleged Johnson got in the driver’s seat, managed to get the vehicle out of the spot where it was stuck in the 12100 block of St. Mary’s St. near the Southfield Freeway and I-96, and then drove to a store with the victim in the passenger seat.

“Later, the defendant directed the elderly woman to get back behind the wheel (and) drive back to her house,” according to the email. There, Johnson allegedly tied up the woman and stole her money and car.

The woman called 911 after Johnson left, and Detroit police were able to locate and arrest her, The Detroit News reports.

Johnson was arraigned Monday and is being held on $500,000 bond. WILX-TV said she is charged with six felonies: carjacking, home invasion, unlawful imprisonment, unlawful driving away of an automobile, interfering with crime reporting, and assault and battery.

Johnson’s probable cause hearing is scheduled for Feb. 17, and her preliminary examination is scheduled for Feb. 23.
