Reward Doubled For Info On Kitten Abuser

Mustang was found abandoned and infected from a wound from a cord tied around his neck, and is finally about to go to his new home.

DEARBORN, MI — Mustang was found in July abandoned, tied to some bushes outside the Ford World Headquarters. Named after his rescuers, the black kitten suffered a severe infection from the cord around his neck, which dug into his skin.

Friends for Animals Metro Detroit recently increased the reward for information leading to the arrest of the kitten abuser from $2,500 to $5,000. Anybody with information can call the shelter at 313-943-2697.

Mustang is recovering quickly. An employee of Vet Select in Dearborn named Karen is taking him home. Despite being abandoned and tied up for several days, “He’s healing up really well,” Karen said, “and he’s a very sweet and friendly kitten." She'll likely finish up the adoption paperwork by Friday, according to a press release from the Friends for Animals Metro Detroit.

FAMD's executive director, Elaine Greene, wants to do what she can do prevent animal abuse. "We need to find out who did this," she said, in hopes that increasing the reward will drive somebody to come forward. "No animal should have to suffer like Mustang did, so we have to make sure this person never treats an animal like this again," she said.

The shelter is completely full with cats who need homes. "Summer is always really busy for us," Greene said, so they're running an adult cat adoption special, for cats over six months of age. With the need to make room for more rescues, FAMD is lowering the adoption fee to $5 for adult cats through August.

FAMD has nurtured nearly 50,000 animals over 22 years, according to the press release, and aims to build a new adoption center at the site of the former Dearborn Amtrak station on Michigan Avenue. You can find more information about FAMD at their website, linked above.
