Rizzo Starts Distributing New Trash Containers in Dearborn Heights

City council approved scandal-ridden trash-hauling company, with six-month opt-out clause.

(Nov. 14, 2016) DEARBORN HEIGHTS, MI — Dearborn Heights residents are seeing blue. New waste containers are being distributed this week by Rizzo Environmental Services, which has replaced Waste Management as the city's trash-hauling service, The Press & Guide reports. The city's contract with Waste Management ended Oct. 31, and the City Council voted last month to approve a $22.5 million waste Hauling contract with Rizzo Environmental Services, despite the company’s entanglement in an alleged kickback and bid rigging scandal

So far, two Macomb County officials have been arrested as the FBI casts a wide net in a public corruption investigation throughout southeast Michigan, but with a special focus on Macomb County.

Two township officials have been arrested and charged so far — Macomb Township Trustee Clifford Freitas and Clinton Township Trustee Dean Reynolds — and accused of taking bribes to ensure Rizzo got the bid for trash hauling services.
