Sacred Heart School Receives $60K Technology Grant

Dearborn announced Monday that they have received a $60,000 grant from the Archdiocese of Detroit to upgrade the school's learning technology.

School officials applauded the grant, saying it would help students acheive more in the classroom.

“Technology is so important, it is all around us," said SHS Principal Melissa Lambrecht. "Today, we are a global world. I would like to provide our Sacred Heart students with as many opportunities to learn as possible and upgrading technology helps students go beyond the four walls of the classroom.”

This grant process was opened up to all of the Catholic schools in the Archdiocese, and it does not require any matching funds.

Currently, the professional learning community and Technology Committee at Sacred Heart School are deciding how this grant can best be used to support classroom learning. Two strong possibilities for its use are completing the installation of promethean boards inside all of the classrooms, and the purchase of iPads that would interact with these boards.

Lambrecht says that through the use of these interactive promethean boards and iPads, students can connect with other students or experts from across the globe. For example, Lambrecht says students will be able to ask marine biologists questions and experience the rainforest first-hand, all with technology.
