Woman Charged In Crash That Killed Dearborn Mother

DEARBORN, MI — A woman who caused a fatal July crash in Dearborn has been charged, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.

Ghada Mustapha was driving a pickup truck near the intersection where a speeding SUV blew through a red light and slammed into the truck, killing the woman, according to police.

Mustapha, 33, was a doctor, wife and mother of three, according to news reports.

Felecia Sunshine Lazo, 25, was charged with second-degree murder in connection with the crash. If convicted, she faces up to life sentence or any term of years in prison.

Lazo was injured in the crash and taken to a nearby hospital where she was initially listed in critical condition, according to police.

Prosecutors said the woman's truck was facing north in the eastbound lane on Michigan Avenue when the SUV slammed into the truck.

"Tragedies that take the life of beloved community members like Dr. Mustapha have a lasting impact on families, friends, and loved ones. When someone chooses to endanger others so gravely, leading to an outcome this tragic, we have to respond with the full weight of the law. Charging this individual with second-degree murder reflects the seriousness of their actions and our commitment to justice for the victims and their families," Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin said.
