1 Killed in Second Detroit Bus Crash in 2 Days
Police think the driver either fell asleep or suffered a medical emergency at the wheel in Thursday morning head-on collision.

DETROIT, MI — A motorist who collided head-on with a Detroit city bus Thursday morning was likely killed instantly, according to media reports. The crash was the second involving a Detroit Department of Transportation bus in as many days.
The crash occurred about about 6:30 a.m. at Gratiot and Jane avenues. Police said the driver of the older model red Ford Escape was northbound and drove into the Detroit Department of Transportation bus’s lane. Police think the driver either fell asleep at the wheel or had a medical emergency.

Eight passengers and the driver were on board at the time. Police told WWJ Radio that five of those on the bus sustained non-life threatening injuries and were treated at a local hospital.
Shortly after noon on Wednesday, six people sustained minor injuries when a DDOT bus crashed through a fence near Clay and St. Aubin streets. The cause of that accident remains under investigation, but DDOT spokeswoman SuVon Treece said preliminary findings indicate the crash may have been the result of a mechanical failure.
