Here's a look at some of the most popular bars and restaurants in and around Detroit that closed in 2022.
METRO DETROIT — There were a number of bars and restaurants that closed across the metro Detroit area that turned off their lights and locked up their doors forever for various reasons.
Here are some of the metro Detroit restaurants that shut their doors permanently during 2022.

The popular Midtown restaurant on Canfield Avenue, between Cass Avenue and Second Street in Detroit was forced to close after a fire destroyed much of the building.
Pizza Papalis (Greektown)

The pizza restaurant on Monroe Street in downtown Detroit was forced to closed due to a loss in traffic throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. There is still a PizzaPapalis in Detroit in Rivertown, and others around the region.
Detroit Vegan Soul
The West Village location in Detroit permanently closed due to troubles caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The other location on Detroit's west side on Grand River is still open.
Woodward Bar & Grill
The cocktail bar was forced to close down after a fire destroyed much of the building. It was one of Detroit's oldest LGBTQ bar's.
Shimmy Shack
The vintage-styled vegan restaurant shut its doors in Plymouth and also put the food truck business up for sale. However, the owner is still doing catering orders and other business on her website, shimmyshack.com.
Wahlburgers Royal Oak
The burger and bar joint at the Woodward Corners in Royal Oak shut its doors earlier this summer. The Detroit location Greektown is still open.
Alcamo's Market
The family market known for their Italian meats, cheeses and desserts, Alcamo's Market in Dearborn closed last month after serving for almost 60 years.
Kalamata Greek Grill
The Greek restaurant on Woodward in Royal Oak shut down after serving for about a decade. The restaurant said National Coney Island store would take its place.
Karl’s
The popular lunch spot known for its vintage vibes inside the Siren Hotel in downtown Detroit shut its doors last month. The hotel was expected to put something else there.
Assaggi Bistro
The popular Ferndale restaurant announced it's closing its doors after New Year's Eve. The restaurant was expected to reopen sometime in 2023.
