Forecasters expect 5 to 6 inches of snow along and south of Interstate 696 in metro Detroit. Areas north of the interstate should see between 3 and 5 inches of snow and even less for areas north of Interstate 69, the weather service said.

Highs will only reach the single digits Saturday with overnight wind chills dropping to as low as -25 degrees across the region, the weather service said.

Temperatures will climb back into the teens Sunday with the accumulating snow.
