1. Rain-soaked Detroit job seekers show skills, grit at Comerica Park hiring event (clickondetroit.com) — Hundreds of Detroiters braved the rain outside Comerica Park to show off their trade skills directly to contractors ready to hire. Backed by the city, the Tigers, Olympia Development and union partners, the hands-on event aimed to open doors into steady, better-paying work for residents determined to change their futures.
2. Street medicine teams bring healthcare directly to Detroit's unhoused residents (planetdetroit.org) — Street medicine teams are fanning out across Detroit’s streets, under bridges, and into abandoned buildings to bring vital healthcare directly to unhoused residents who rarely reach clinics or hospitals. Led by Dr. Richard Bryce and local partners, they focus on trust, harm reduction, and survival in Detroit’s harsh winters, offering medical care, supplies, and long-term connections to more stable treatment and housing.
3. 3 injured in separate weekend shootings in Detroit, police say (cbsnews.com) — Three people were injured in separate Saturday shootings across Detroit, including incidents on West Eight Mile, Rosemont, and near Palmer Park, with two victims hospitalized in stable condition. Police arrested a suspect in the Eight Mile case, but have not yet announced arrests in the Rosemont carjacking or the shooting of a teenage driver near Palmer Park.
4. 17-year-old arraigned on multiple felony charges in downtown Detroit shooting (tv20detroit.com) — A 17-year-old has been charged with multiple felonies after a 14-year-old was shot in the chest during a recent “teen takeover” in downtown Detroit, with prosecutors alleging he fired several shots into a crowd. The teen, who survived, spoke to local TV while recovering, and the accused is being held on a $500,000 bond ahead of a June 1 court date.
5. Check from Detroit car shop bounces after woman faces weeks of runaround repairs (clickondetroit.com) — A Detroit woman is finally set to get her SUV back after nearly two months of delays, a failed repair, and a bounced refund check from a west side auto shop. After she contacted Local 4, the owner pledged to finish the work and have cash ready by Tuesday, following weeks of excuses and safety concerns about driving the vehicle.
