1. 10 Events To Show LGBTQ+ Support During Pride Month In Metro Detroit (patch.com) — Metro Detroit residents will see Pride Month return with Motor City Pride taking over Hart Plaza in Detroit June 6–7, featuring performances, vendors, and community booths. Additional LGBTQ+ celebrations are planned in Detroit neighborhoods and nearby suburbs throughout June and July, offering families and allies many ways to show support close to home.
2. Longtime Detroit principal not returning to school after disciplinary incidents, DPSCD says (bridgedetroit.com) — Detroit families at Paul Robeson Malcolm X Academy are learning that longtime principal Jeffery Robinson will not return to his role this fall after disciplinary incidents, and will instead be reassigned within DPSCD. A new principal, Reginald Kirkland, has already been introduced, but some parents say they’ve received little communication and are unsure whether to keep their children at the school.
3. Reducing poverty is a growth strategy for Detroit, region, Sheffield says (detroitnews.com) — Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield is tying the city’s long-term growth to aggressively reducing poverty, arguing at the Mackinac Policy Conference that investing in residents will strengthen both neighborhoods and business. She highlighted new city initiatives, wage commitments, and youth programs aimed at lifting incomes and improving prospects for Detroit families.
4. Dom Dolla tickets on sale for summer 2026 tour in Las Vegas, Detroit, Paris, Ibiza (artthreat.net) — Detroit electronic music fans can plan ahead for Dom Dolla’s 2026 Movement Music Festival-closing set at Hart Plaza, with presale tickets opening May 29 via Ticketmaster. The tour includes 34 dates across Las Vegas, Detroit, Paris, and Ibiza, reflecting his rapid rise in global dance music. Expect strong demand for Detroit festival passes and Las Vegas residency shows.
5. ‘We've got to become a village': Detroit group calls on Black men to mentor kids during summer break (clickondetroit.com) — A Detroit nonprofit, New Era Detroit, is recruiting Black men citywide to join its “Brothas on the Block” mentoring walks every other Thursday, aiming to support kids during summer break. Volunteers walk Detroit neighborhoods, build relationships with young people, and provide a consistent, positive presence on local streets.
