Detroit police also reported the store was selling marijuana without a dispensary license, and warned other city businesses to follow the law or face similar action.

You must own your home, be current on taxes, meet income limits, and have a child, senior, or disabled household member, with applications due by 5 p.m. Sept. 22.
   

3. Cass Café is coming back to Detroit with a whole lot more than food and drinks (metrotimes.com) — Cass Corridor's longtime Cass Café is reopening as a community-owned cultural hub, with a full relaunch set for November 6 at 4620 Cass Ave. Detroiters can peek inside much sooner during Saturday's Dally in the Alley, when the bar, art-filled walls, and new Village Radio studio open for a free public open house.

Detroit man pleads guilty to torturing, burning raccoon, then posting video online (clickondetroit.com) — A 38-year-old Detroit man has pleaded guilty to torturing and burning a raccoon at a home on Washburn Street, after posting video of the abuse online. Detroit police investigated and arrested him, and a judge has signaled an 18‑month probation sentence with community service, fines, an animal protection class, and a ban on owning pets.
   

5. Abdul El-Sayed kicks off town hall tour in Detroit (michigandaily.com) — Detroit residents packed a town hall this week as U.S. Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed launched his "Shouldn't Be This Hard" tour at local campuses, focusing heavily on healthcare, food safety, and cost of living. Attendees from Detroit pressed him on Democratic Party courage, public health funding, and how he'd rebuild federal protections, while he urged locals to treat the final campaign weeks as shared civic work.
