DETROIT — A Wayne County man is planning to pay off his debt after winning $2 million on a scratch-off ticket, according to Michigan Lottery officials.
The lucky 37-year-old player, who chose to remain anonymous, bought his winning Big Money Pay Day ticket at Safeway Market Inc., located at 8031 Dix Street in Detroit, lottery officials said.
He said he scratched the ticket in his car before heading home.
"When I saw I'd won $2 million, I was in complete shock," he told lottery officials. "I buy scratch-off tickets all the time and have won smaller prizes, but I honestly never thought I'd win a big prize like this, so I feel over the moon excited and blessed."
He decided to receive his prize as a one-time lump-sum payment of about $1.3 million rather than annuity payments for the full amount.
"This big win will allow me to pay off all my debt and then I plan to save the rest of the money for whatever the future may have in store for me," he said.
