Belle Isle Aquarium​ Ranked As Most Beautiful In Nation: List

DETROIT — A popular Detroit destination was ranked as the most beautiful in the nation.

Belle Isle Aquarium is the most beautiful and picturesque aquarium in the nation, according to Aquarium Store Depot, who ranked the aquarium No. 1 on its list.

The group looked through Tripadvisor reviews for 175 aquariums across the nation and then ranked the top ten most visually appealing in the country.

The group said 30.7 percent of reviews left on the website contained keywords describing the Belle Isle Aquarium's beauty.

Belle Isle Aquarium first opened in 1904, making it one of the oldest aquariums in the nation. The aquarium houses more than 200 different saltwater and freshwater species.

The historic building also houses tropical fish from all over the world, with the majority of species coming from the Great Lakes region.

The aquarium was closed in 2005, but reopened in 2012 after the community showed there was enough demand to support it.
