Hi all. It's me, Dylan Siwicki, your host of the Detroit Daily. Here's all the community news you need to know right now.

First, today's weather:

Partly sunny and beautiful. High: 83 Low: 62.

Here are the top stories today in Detroit:

  1. The historic Belle Isle slide reopens Friday after workers made a few adjustments to stop riders from bouncing all the way down, Belle Isle Park officials said. DNR Officials said they have scrubbed down the slide's surface and sprayed a little water on the slide between rides to help control the speed. (Detroit Patch)
  2. The Detroit Jazz Festival is live once again. Chris Collins appeared on "Live in the D" with host Tati Amare to talk about what to expect at the 43rd annual event. (WDIV ClickOnDetroit)
  3. The Jackson County Animal Shelter helped two kittens get adopted Monday morning after it turning them into celebrities when it asked someone to adopt the "two-headed cat" Friday afternoon. (Michigan Patch)
  4. Two men were arrested Thursday after police said they smashed a car's window and stole the sterling wheel in a Dearborn parking lot. In addition, police believe the two men stole numerous steering wheels across metro Detroit, accounting for much of the rise in steering wheel thefts across the region, police said. (Dearborn Patch)

Dylan Siwicki

About me: I was born and raised on Detroit's Westside, in the hard working blue-collar Polish neighborhood of Warrendale. I'm a Detroit Public School graduate who fought hard to earn my education. My aspiration into journalism came as a young kid, when I began following the corruption scandal of former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick. My first break in to the journalism world began with the opportunity to work at the Michigan Journal, where I primarily reported on campus and local news throughout the Dearborn community. I eventually worked my way to news editor. So with first-hand experience growing up in a tight-knit neighborhood, I know the importance of delivering news and telling stories that impact local communities. And as a breaking news editor at Patch for Metro Detroit, it's my job to deliver that news. So feel free to contact me about news tips or your own unique experiences at dylan.siwicki@patch.com
