COVID-19 Hospitalizations Surge In Michigan: MDHHS

Health officials also reported an increase in pediatric patients, which stands at an all-time high.

MICHIGAN — Confirmed COVID-19 hospitalizations are increasing again in Michigan, state health officials reported Monday.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reported 4,232 adult inpatients are hospitalized with COVID-19, which is up from 3,862 that was reported Dec. 29, 2021.

Health officials also reported an increase to 107 pediatric patients who are confirmed or suspected to have COVID-19, which is at an all-time high since the state started reporting such pediatric COVID hospitalizations in August 2020.

The state previously reported there was a 28.4 percent increase in COVID-19 hospitalizations for children under the age of 17 from Dec. 12 through Dec. 18 from the prior week, in which the number increased to 78.

Health officials also reported 61,235 new cases of COVID-19 and 298 virus-related deaths Monday, which is an average of 12,247 cases over the past five days. It's the second-largest daily case average for Michigan since the start of the pandemic.

Last week, health officials reported 25,858 new confirmed COVID-19 cases over a two-day period in Michigan, which amounted to a record high average of 12,929 cases per day.
