You May See Fans Wearing Blue Ski Masks At Lions Home Opener Sunday: Here's Why

Kick-off for the Lions home opener Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Ford Field in downtown Detroit.

DETROIT — You might see a sea of blue ski masks Sunday at Ford Field after veteran safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson encouraged fans to wear them for the Detroit Lions home opener.

"You gonna see on Sunday, blue ski masks everywhere," Gardner-Johnson said on Tuesday to reporters. "Part of us, it’s the culture. I’m changing it."

Gardner-Johnson was seen wearing a blue ski mask after the Lions' impressive win in Kansas City against the Chiefs last Thursday.

At one point, major online retail sites like Amazon claimed to have sold out of blue ski masks, which customers can buy for $9.99 a mask. The retailer has since said the masks have been restocked.

Lions Head coach Dan Campbell said he expects fans to show up and be loud.

"I know what Arrowhead is, and it was loud," Campbell said Monday. "I expect it to be louder than that, I really do. I just know our fans. And it’s going to be — it’ll be to the point where you can’t hear yourself think. For them, anyway."

Cheapest tickets to the Lions game Sunday were approaching $200, while a pair of mid-level seats were going for around $300 and seats closer to the field in the lower level were going for over $400.
