$1M Bond For Detroit Teen Accused Of Robbing Wounded Detroit Cop

A Detroit teenager facing armed robbery charges is accused of stealing gun from wounded police officer.

DETROIT, MI – A Detroit man believed to be part of an armed robbery that left a Detroit police officer severely wounded and another suspect dead was charged in a Wayne County court with stealing the injured officer’s department-issued handgun and cellphone, the prosecutor’s office said. Keevon Deewon Robinson, 19, was charged with armed robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery, according to a news release from Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy’s office. During his arraignment Wednesday, bond was set at $1 million cash.

The officer, who hasn’t been named, was robbed outside Motor City Liquor Sunday night. He is expected to recover from his wounds.

Detroit police think Robinson was a participant in the armed robbery, the release said. Earlier, Police Chief James Craig said the second man very deliberately approached both victims and took their weapons.

The 27-year-old officer, who has been on the job for about a year, was the ninth Detroit police officer either shot or killed since September, Craig said at a news conference near the scene of the shooting outside Motor City Liquor on Gratiot Avenue just west of Chene Street.

“Enough is enough,” he said. “It needs to stop.”

The injured officer had just made a purchase at the liquor store around 11 p.m. when he was approached by the suspect, who had his gun drawn, Craig said, according to a Facebook Live video. “The suspect ran toward the officer with his arm extended, holding a gun,” Craig said. “The officer, fearing for his life, fired shots and killed the suspect.”

Robinson is due back in court at 8:30 a.m. June 14 for a probable cause hearing and 9 a.m. June 21 for a preliminary examination, both in 36th District Court.
