Detroit Weather: Snow, Ice for North American International Auto Show

Be prepared for accumulating snow and an icy commute early in the week; also, Lansing weather on opening day of Michigan Legislature.

METRO DETROIT, MI — If you’re planning to take in the North American International Auto Show, you may have to contend with some snowy weather starting Monday night and continuing off and on through the end of the week. Travel could be especially treacherous Tuesday morning.

By the way, the Detroit Auto Show runs the Cobo Center daily through Sunday, Jan. 22. It opened Sunday. The Legislature also reconvenes Wednesday. There’s a chance of showers Wednesday afternoon in Lansing, but it will be mostly sunny with a high near 39.

Monday: Cloudy, with a high near 27. South southwest wind 10 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Monday night: temperatures falling to 26 by 10 p.m., then rising to around 30 during the remainder of the night; 80 percent chance of snow, mainly after 2 a.m.; south wind 9 to 13 mph. Snow accumulation of around 2 inches is possible.

Tuesday: A 90 percent cain, snow, freezing rain, and sleet before noon, then rain, snow, and sleet between noon and 1 p.m, changing to all rain after 1 p.m.; high near 42; breezy, with a south wind 14 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Little or no ice accumulation is expected, and new snow and sleet accumulation of around 2 inches are possible. Tuesday night: 80 percent chance of precipitation, mainly before 2 a.m.; low round 33; breezy, with a west-southwest wind 10 to 18 mh, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Between a tenth and a quarter inch of rain is possible.

Wednesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 40. Wednesday night: a 60 percent chance of rain and snow likely, becoming all rain after 4 a m.; mostly cloudy, with a low around 33; little or no snow accumulation expected.

Thursday: Rain likely, mainly before 2 p.m.; cloudy, with a high near 49. Thursday night: A chance of rain before 2 a.m., mostly cloudy, with a low around 29.

Friday: A chance of snow after 2 p.m., mostly cloudy, with a high near 33. Friday night: A chance of snow, mostly cloudy, with a low around 20.

Saturday: A chance of snow; cloudy, with a high near 29. Saturday night: A chance of snow; mostly cloudy, with a low around 21.

Sunday: Snow likely; mostly cloudy, with a high near 33.
