Detroit's Campus Martius Is Among Best Public Square's In U.S.: Report

DETROIT — Campus Martius Park in downtown Detroit was ranked among the best public squares in the country.

USA Today ranked the park No.4 on its list, thanks to its welcoming atmosphere, variety of activities and beautiful city backdrop.

"Campus Martius Park serves as Detroit’s gathering place, where locals and visitors alike can come to take in the skyline views, people watch around the Woodward Fountain, grab a meal from a food truck or go ice skating in winter," the outlet said.

Campus Martius opened in 2004 and has become a staple in downtown, as it draws millions of people from the Detroit area and around the world come to the city. The park annually hold events, such as the Christmas Tree lighting, ice skating and the Detroit Jazz Festival.

Other public squares that made the list include, Church Street Marketplace in Burlington, Vermont, Centerway Square in Corning, New York, Decatur Square in Decatur, Georgia and Healdsburg Plaza in Healdsburg, California.
