Donald Trump Inauguration: Kid Rock, Ted Nugent Aren’t Performing

Both musicians showed the president-elect a lot of love during the campaign. Kid Rock wasn't "formally" asked; Ted Nugent is going hunting.

DETROIT, MI — Metro Detroit-born rap-rocker Kid Rock loves Donald Trump so much he created a merchandise line in the president-elect’s honor. But Rock won’t be tuning his guitar to celebrate Trump’s inauguration Friday as the nation’s 45th president. The five-time Grammy nominee didn’t get an official invitation to rock the inauguration, the musician told reporters in Detroit Thursday.

And neither are inaugural concerts featuring “Motor City madman” Ted Nugent. Also a Metro Detroit native, the rocker’s Facebook musings have been unflattering to the current administration and Democrat presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, and Nugent even said before the election that he would consider running for president himself if Americans didn’t “get it right” by electing Trump.

The controversial president-elect has had trouble attracting A-list (and not-so-A-list) stars to perform at inaugural events.

Some invited stars pulled out after push-back from their fans, including Jennifer Holliday, who was originally billed as one of the main performers for the event. Soon after the concert was announced, Holliday cited a negative reaction from her fans — particularly the LGBT community — as her reason for dropping out.

But country singer Toby Keith, rock band 3 Doors Down and folks singer Lee Greenwood did headline a special concert celebration Thursday.

James Ritchie, who performs under the stage name of Kid Rock, told the Detroit Free Press he wasn’t formally asked to perform during any any the ceremonies leading up to or after Trump’s inauguration. Known for a musical style that blends hip-hop, rap, metal, blues, rock, southern rock, funk and country music, Rock spoke with reporters at a media event to announce four September shows at the yet-to-be-completed Little Caesars Arena in downtown Detroit.

And about speculation that Nugent, who grabbed his crotch while firing up the crowd at a pre-election Trump rally in Sterling Heights, Michigan, might “Wango-Tango” his way to Pennsylvania Avenue for the inaugural festivities? Nope, that’s not happening, either. Nugent is going hunting, his management representatives told the Free Press.

In August, Nugent said he might consider a run for the presidency himself. “Because I know exactly how to fix this (expletive),” Nugent said in an interview with MLive.com last year.

“I’ve always considered it,” the aging rocker said of running for public office. “I think all of your best politicians are citizens who were let down by the failures of their politicians and took the reins themselves.”
