Dr. Joseph Cacchione named Ascension Michigan CEO

Dr. Cacchione has been serving as interim Ascension Michigan CEO since April

Joseph Cacchione, MD, FACC, has accepted the role of Senior Vice President, Ascension Healthcare, and Ascension Michigan Chief Executive Officer.

“Dr. Cacchione has been serving as interim Ascension Michigan CEO since April 2018. During this time, he has enthusiastically visited each of the ministries that make up Ascension Michigan and engaged with associates, leaders and physicians as they work together to advance our Mission as an integrated ministry,” said Dr. Patricia Maryland, executive vice president, Ascension, and president and chief executive officer, Ascension Healthcare.

“I am excited about continuing to move forward as Ascension Michigan’s CEO, and am grateful for the overwhelming support of our Ascension Michigan leaders, providers, associates and community as we continue to fulfill our Mission of caring for those we are privileged to serve,” shared Dr. Cacchione.

In this role, Dr. Cacchione will provide strategic and operational leadership of all health ministries across Michigan (Detroit/SE Michigan, Flint/Grand Blanc, Kalamazoo Region, Saginaw, Standish, Tawas) focused on creating alignment as Ascension Michigan moves forward on the One Ascension journey of becoming one integrated health ministry across the country, and providing a coordinated care experience for patients throughout the spectrum of their lives.

Dr. Cacchione also will continue to provide strategic leadership to Ascension Medical Group, serving as Chief Executive Officer, as it continues its transformation journey as a high-performing medical group that unites a community of providers through a shared purpose of supporting the needs of patients and caregivers.

Dr. Cacchione joined Ascension after serving in leadership positions at the Cleveland Clinic, including as Chair of Operations and Strategy for the clinic’s Heart & Vascular Institute. His earlier roles included serving as Executive Vice President, Chief of Quality & Operations, at Saint Vincent Health System in Erie, Pennsylvania. Dr. Cacchione is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology. He received his medical degree from the Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia and his undergraduate degree from Gannon University in Erie.
