Driver Dies After Crashing Car into Statue On Belle Isle: Police

Michigan State Police said they are investigating the crash and have yet determined if the crash was intentional or not.

DETROIT — A man died Wednesday afternoon after crashing his car into a statue on Belle Isle, Michigan State Police said.

DNR Conservation Officers saw the car speeding at Belle Isle Central and Inselruhe Avenue without its headlights on when it crashed into the statue at 5:35 p.m., officials said.

The unresponsive 56-year-old Eastpointe man was pulled from the car and transported to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries, officials said.
