Iconic Detroit Donut Shop Reopening 'Very Soon' With New Owners

The popular donut shop shut down operations in September 2021 due to staffing shortages caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

DETROIT — Dutch Girl Donuts in Detroit is expected to reopen under new ownership, according to a Facebook post.

"We have wonderful news to share! Dutch Girl has accepted an offer and very soon will be open again!" the post reads.

The post also said Jon Timmer, the son of the late owners, Gene and Lauren Timmer, will be back making the donuts and other sweets from family recipes.

"The tradition of Dutch Girl that we all love and miss will be alive and well," the post read.

It was not immediately clear who bought the building or the brand. An exact reopening date was not announced.

The popular donut shop located at Seven Mile Road and Woodward Avenue shut down operations in September 2021 due to staffing shortages caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

A few weeks later, Gene Timmer, the owner and founder of the beloved donut shop in 1947, died from complications due to cancer. He was 75 years old.

The building was then listed for sale in April.
