McDonald's partners with DPSCD to support Every School Day Counts

District partnership encourages attendance, promotes academic success

McDonald’s of Michigan will partner with the Detroit Public Schools Community District for a special event that encourages regular school attendance and motivates students to show up, be counted and pursue their academic goals.

On Wednesday, Oct. 3, Detroit McDonald’s owner/operators will visit East English Village Prep Academy to share how being in attendance everyday leads to future success. DPSCD principals and school leaders will also hand out McDonald’s Be Our Guest cards to high school students, redeemable for a free meal.

The visit and giveaway is part of DPSCD’s “Every School Day Counts” initiative and will take place on Michigan’s count day, which the state uses to determine funding for school districts. Attending school regularly is shown to help students perform better on tests, feel better about themselves and school, graduate and attend college.

“McDonald’s is proud to partner with the Detroit Public Schools Community District to encourage kids to attend school every day and motivate themselves to succeed,” said Detroit McDonald’s owner/operator Errol Service. “Education is a critical gateway to future success, and McDonald’s is proud to help lead the charge to open doors of opportunity for young people to reach for the stars and pursue their dreams.”

McDonald’s recently expanded its Archways to Opportunity program, offering $2,500 in college tuition assistance per year to crew and $3,000 to managers who work an average of at least 15 hours a week. McDonald’s also extended education benefits to restaurant employees’ family members. Additionally, the Archways to Opportunity program allows employees to earn a high school diploma, provides access to free education advising services and offers courses to learn English as a second language.
