Metro Detroit Special Elections 2022: Polls Closed

Voters went to the polls Tuesday to fill three vacant Michigan House seats in the metro Detroit area.

METRO DETROIT — Voters went to the polls Tuesday to fill three vacant Michigan House seats in the metro Detroit area.

Republican Mike Harris defeated Democrat Kent Douglas for Michigan's vacant 43rd house district seat in Tuesday's special election, according to multiple outlets. The seat became vacant after Republican Andrea Schroeder died in October 2021. The northern Oakland County seat is home to most of the Clarkston area.

Republican Terence Mekoski was leading Democrat James Diez for Michigan's vacant 36th district house seat in Tuesday's elections, according to multiple outlets. The seat became vacant after Republican Douglas Wozniak was elected to the state senate in November 2021. The Macomb County seat encompasses portions of Bruce Township, Washington Township, and part of Shelby Charter Township.

Voters in Dearborn area sought to elect a new state representative to fill former representative Abdullah Hammoud's seat after he was elected as Dearborn mayor in November 2021. Democrat Jeffrey Pepper defeated Alabas Farhat in March's primary to face Republican Ginger Shearer, who Ran unopposed.
