Michael Symon’s Roast Has Best Steak In Michigan: List

At "Iron Chef" Michael Symon's Roast, diners love burgers — a "religious experience," one said — and say Brussels sprouts "will change you."

DETROIT, MI — Americans are steak-loving carnivores, and in Michigan, the best place to get a great slab of meat is Roast, the toast of downtown Detroit. “Iron Chef” celebrity Michael Symon opened Roast inside the swanky Westin Book Cadillac in 2008.

Now, Business Insider says Roast, located at 1128 Washington St., has so delighted Detroiters’ palates that it qualifies as Michigan’s best steakhouse. Business Insider teamed up with Foursquare City Guide to find the top-rated steakhouses in every state and the District of Columbia.

The list is based on Foursquare customer ratings, popularity based on visits and tipping practices among users of the city-guide app. Roast gets high marks not only for its steak, but also for its burgers and sides.

In Roast reviews on Foursquare, the Wall Street Journal was effusive in its praise of the Roast Burger, affordably priced and piled with bacon, cheddar cheese, egg and pickled onion, the newspaper’s critic wrote. Ryan Meray called it “a single-serving religious experience,” and said the Brussels sprouts “will change you.”

Meray wasn’t the only Roast diner giving serious chops to the fried Brussels sprouts. Alejandro Bodipo-Memba called them “the bomb.” Other reviews on the site hint at Roast’s one-of-a-kind menu items, like roasted goat, lamb ragu and Guinness ice cream. And several diners said Roast has one of the best happy hours in Detroit. For more, go to the Roast website.
