Michigan (6-0) enters its bye week after its best performance of the season, a 78-0 road destruction of Rutgers.

In fact, the Wolverines’ win was among the best in school history and was Michigan’s largest margin of victory since an 85-0 triumph over Chicago University in 1939.

Michigan’s victory was so total, the numbers are almost unbelievable. The Wolverines outgained the Scarlet Knights 600-39 and held Rutgers to only two first downs. Rutgers quarterback Chris Laviano only completed one pass (on eight attempts) for 6 yards while his teammate Zach Allen was only 1 for 10 for negative-one yard passing.

Meanwhile, 11 Michigan players carried the ball and gained 481 rushing yards, while Rutgers gained only 34 yards on 36 carries, good for a 0.9 yard per carry average. The Wolverines also rushed for a record nine touchdowns in the game.

Leading the charge for the Wolverines was all-everything player Jabrill Peppers, who ran for a career-high two touchdowns and also helped stifle Rutgers with his defensive prowess. Two other Wolverines cleared the 100 yard rushing mark as Chris Evans ran for 153 yards on 11 carries and Karan Higdon added 108 yards on 13 attempts. (with two touchdowns). Ty Isaac just missed the mark as he carried the ball 12 times for 99 yards and two touchdowns.
