Motorist Intentionally Rammed Barricade, Struck Detroit Cop: Reports

A Detroit police officer was investigating an accident when another motorist intentionally struck her, according to report.

DETROIT, MI — A Detroit police officer was hospitalized Monday night after she was struck by a woman who is accused of ramming her vehicle through a barricade, striking the officer. The injured officer was investigating a traffic accident at the time in the area of West Jefferson Avenue and West End Street in southwest Detroit.

The officer sustained injuries to her hand and wrist, WWJ Radio reported. The radio station cited Detroit Police Department sources who said the motorist intentionally backed into the officer. It’s unclear if the motorist is in custody.

The incident occurred two days after Detroit Police Chief James Craig cited increased violence against police, noting that eight Detroit police officers have been shot or killed in the line of duty in the past seven months. Craig made his remarks at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C., during National Police Week activities.
