Motown Museum Conducts Fifth Annual IGNITE Summer Camp
10-day camp open to deserving metro Detroit high school students interested in the music industry
Motown Museum, in conjunction with Wayne State University, announced today it will host its fifth annual Motown EDU summer camp—IGNITE, which is open to deserving metropolitan Detroit area high school students. The camp will be held July 9-20. Robin R. Terry, Chairwoman and CEO of the Board of Trustees of Motown Museum, made the announcement.
In an effort to encourage artistic expression and the entrepreneurial spirit that was critical to the Motown Records legacy, the newly renamed Motown Museum IGNITE Summer Camp will offer metro Detroit high school students with interest in songwriting, singing, instrumental composition dancing/choreography, entrepreneurship or business management, the opportunity to focus on their talents in an inspiring, historic and artistic environment.
“Motown Museum is committed to serving as an educational platform focused on fostering the cornerstones of Motown’s success and providing opportunities for emerging talent to harness the power of their own talents, skills and abilities,” said Terry. “We believe in cultivating talent in all shapes and sizes and encouraging creative expression, artistic talent, teamwork, innovation and entrepreneurship—IGNITE allows us to do just that, and it is our hope that students in our community will join us for this one-of-a-kind experience this summer.”

Throughout the camp, attendees will enjoy customized curriculum focused on hands-on activities, including studio time and lessons on branding, stage presence and musical production. Adding to their experiences, campers will connect with guest presenters who bring real world experience to the program. Previous guests have included Kern Brantley (Lady GaGa MD), Antea Shelton (Songwriter for Beyoncé, Justin Bieber), Tony Award Winning educator Marilyn McCormick, and many more.
“I have attended the Motown Museum’s summer camp for two years now and have had incredible experiences both times,” said former Motown EDU summer camp student Carrington Vaughan. “At the camp, I get to learn so much about the music business and how to build my brand as an artist. This camp has helped me set the foundation of my career and has inspired my thoughts on how to be the best artist I can be.”
