New Detroit Sports Bar Opening In Time For Tigers Home Opener
The new sports bar, opening along Woodward Avenue in downtown is named after Rocket Mortgage Founder Dan Gilbert's late son.
DETROIT — A new Detroit sports bar along Woodward Avenue in downtown will open just in time for the Detroit Tigers home opener, accordant to a news release.
Gilly's, named after Rocket Mortgage Founder Dan Gilbert's son, will open at 1550 Woodward Avenue, just south of Grand Circus Park on April 5 at 10 a.m., according to the release.
Gilbert's son, nicknamed "Gilly" died at the age of 26 last May from complications from neurofibromatosis, according to the release.

The 10,000-square-foot restaurant from Bedrock Detroit will feature a 120-square-foot television, unique Detroit memorabilia and custom artwork from local artists, according to the release.
The interior, which was the original vision from Nick (who had worked on the project in the last couple of years of his life) was designed by Coeval Studios and drew inspiration from the City of Detroit.

The menu includes classic American game day dishes along with healthy options, such as grass-fed smash burgers, according to the release.
The new sports bar will also have a coffee shop cafe and then a wide collection of draft beers and specialty cocktails, inspired by Detroit, according to the release.
There will also be Gilly's Rooftop, which will offer Mexican street fare, opening sometime later this spring, according to the release.
"We are excited to have this unique opportunity to introduce our unique concept to the city of Detroit in time for the Tiger’s home opener, and to the rest of the sports world during the NFL Draft," 7OH2 Hospitality (operating partner of the establishment) Owner Josh Lang said. "Gilly’s Clubhouse will be the destination for every fan to show their spirit and pride. Sports, great food, creative cocktails, art and entertainment – Gilly’s will offer it all. As Nick Gilbert often said, ‘What’s Not to Like?’"
Gilly's will be open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.
The Detroit Tigers will open the season at home on April 5 against the Oakland Athletics at 1:10 a.m. The NFL Draft will also take place in downtown Detroit on April 25-27.
Saksey's, a new cocktail lounge that promises to be "Detroit's most intimate room," will also open sometime this spring in the lower level of Gilly’s.
