Lace Up Detroit and local Chevy dealers donated 1,700 pairs, turning the day into a high-energy celebration that supported immigrant families and reinforced the school's push that every minute in class matters.
   

4. Detroit mail carrier beaten, shot at near 8 Mile; 4 suspects arrested and firearm recovered by police (wxyz.com) — A mail carrier was beaten and shot at on Detroit's east side near Joann and 8 Mile, but is expected to recover after being hospitalized with a head injury. Detroit police quickly arrested three adults and one juvenile and recovered a firearm, with state and federal agencies now assisting the investigation into the broad-daylight attack in a residential neighborhood.

Former Detroit Tigers announcer gets kidney transplant at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit (midmichigannow.com) — A longtime Detroit sports announcer is recovering after receiving a life-saving kidney transplant at Henry Ford Health in Detroit, following an initial rejection due to his age. With help from a living donor swap program, he's now back to planning future games and urging others to consider organ donation, as doctors highlight the severe shortage of kidneys nationwide.
