Students Literally Sing with Joy to Announce Snow Day: Video

Why just announce a snow day when you can sing it? Students at a southeast Michigan school sang the news to Lorde's "Royal."

WALLED LAKE, MI — The announcement that hundreds of schools would close Monday after a crippling winter storm dumped nearly a foot of snow on some areas no doubt was cause for thousands of students to sing with joy. But in one school district, the announcement itself was a song.

The choir at Walled Lake Northern High School set the announcement to Lorde’s hit song, “Royal.” The a capella announcement shows off the stocking cap- and winter gear-clad students’ musical chops while they delivered the happy news for students at Walled Lake Consolidated Schools.

“Cause everybody is watching, waiting, looking at that forecast; wishing, hoping, praying for a snow blast in our town; and it is coming here tonight,” the students sang.

And then, this: “We're getting a snow day, and you don't have to go to school. ...So just relax and stay inside; and we’ll see you tomorrow; everyone enjoy your day. Sleep in, and we’ll see you on another day.”

It was a hit, if the comments on the school’s Facebook page are an indication.

Singing the snow announcement is a custom at the school. Last year, choir students sang a rendition of “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” from the movie “Frozen.”
