METRO DETROIT — The metro Detroit area is one of the hottest build-to-rent communities in the country, according to a RentCafe study.
Coming in at number 8, the study also said metro Detroit boasts one of the largest communities of single-family rentals in the country.
93 percent of metro Detroit's 2,620 single-family homes built only for the purpose of renting are located in the suburbs, which is more than the national average of 61 percent, according to the survey.

The study cited Detroit, West Bloomfield, Grand Rapids, Macomb and Brownstown as the top 5 cities with the most BTR communities. Furthermore, West Blomfield's 83 West Town Homes is the 10th largest community of single-family rentals in the nation, accordant to the study.

In 2013, just 1,740 single-family rentals were built compared to 6,740 built in 2021, which was a record year, according to RentCafe data. The survey cites the growing trend and estimates that 13,910 new single family built-to-rent rentals will be built in 2022.
