Teen Arrested In Detroit Shooting That Injured 2 Kids, 2 Women: Police

The two women injured in the shooting were still in serious condition, while the kids should be ok and make a full recovery, police said.

DETROIT — A 16-year-old was arrested in connection with a shooting that injured four people, including two kids and a pregnant woman last week at a Detroit park, according to Detroit Police Chief James White said Monday.

White did not release any other details about the suspected shooter or the arrest.

"I wanted the community to know that no one else is at-risk. When you get a quadruple shooting, you get a lot of calls with people saying 'What's going on with the arrests, is anybody in custody,'" White said.

Two 18-year-old women and two kids, ages 6 and 3, were injured in a shooting after two women got into a physical fight around 9 p.m. Wednesday night at a park near Faust Avenue and Cathedral Street, near Cody High School, according to police.

One of the 18-year-old victims, a pregnant woman, was still "fighting for her life," at hospital, though it looks like her unborn child will survive, White said.

The other 18-year-old victim was still in serious condition, while both children should be ok and are expected to make a full recovery, White said.

When the fight broke out at the park, police said one of the women involved in the fight called a man who she knows and he showed up with a gun in his backpack, according to police.

The man then fired four shots, striking the four victims, according to police.

The shooter and the woman who called him to the park then ran away after the shooting, according to police.

One of the women shot was involved in the fight, while the other was not, according to police.

The two kids who were shot are not related to the adults involved in the fight and were just enjoying an evening in the park, according to police.

The children's parents were with them at the hospital, but it's unclear who was with the kids at the time of the shooting, according to police.

While confident that they have the suspected shooter, White did not discuss details about the gun used in the shooting and how the shooter may have got access to it. When asked if the parents of the suspected shooter could face charges, White said everything is still on the table and investigators are still working to identify other suspects in the shooting.

More information is expected at a later date, but White reiterated that right now there is no further threat to the community.
