Top 100 Hot Spot Restaurants: Detroit Makes Open Table List Twice
Which restaurants did Open Table's diners rate among America's best? One locally sources its rotating menu; the other is part of a chain.

DETROIT, MI — Two Detroit restaurants — Republic Tavern and Texas de Brazil — are the only Michigan mentions on Open Table’s Top 100 Hot Spot Restaurants in America list for 2017. The online reservation service provider’s list is based on more than 10 million reviews by verified diners who made reservations at more than 24,000 restaurants across the country.
The restaurants were rated not only for the quality of their food and drinks, but also the vibrancy of bar scenes, live music and ambience.
Republic Tavern, which serves contemporary American food, is located at 1942 Grand River Ave. in downtown Detroit. Menu items are locally sourced, so it ebbs and flows with Michigan’s seasons to reflect seasonal availability.

“By partnering with local Michigan suppliers, we identify the best ingredients available and use those ingredients as an inspiration for our constantly evolving menu,” Republic Tavern says on its website. “Our approach to driks is taken with equal care, featuring natural wines, craft beers and premium whiskey options.”
Both Detroit Eater and the Detroit Free Press have featured Republic on their “best new restaurant” lists. You can reserve a table here.
