Vice President Joe Biden Speaks in Detroit Tuesday
The vice president will speak to entrepreneurs receiving Motor City Match funding, but isn't expected at Detroit Auto Show.
DETROIT, MI — Vice President Joe Biden, who flew into Detroit Monday for a private event at the North American International Auto Show, will speak at 11 am. Tuesday as the sixth round of funding is announced for a program that matches local entrepreneurs with property. The invitation-only event at the Detroit School for Digital Technology is closed to the public, according to media reports.
The speech after the announcement of the 15 entrepreneurs sharing $600,000 in Motor City Match funding is likely Biden’s last in Detroit as vice president. Motor City Match is a project offered jointly by the city of Detroit, the Detroit Economic Growth Corp., and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Foundations and community development groups also provide funding.
The Motor City Match program, which awards at least $500,000 in grants each quarter, is another initiative to help fill some the Detroit’s best real estate with enetrepreneurs from Detroit and around the world.

Biden isn’t expected to visit the Detroit Auto Show, though he has in the past. Due to security concerns, he will stay on the periphery of the event, U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell, D-Dearborn, said on an appearance on “Michigan’s Big Show.”

“I don’t know if it’s going to be the auto show itself ... but around it. Visit some of the connecting things,” Dingell told host Patrick Shiels. “You get into trouble disrupting shows and all that. Security has become a real issue.”
From Detroit, Biden will fly to Chicago to attend President Barack Obama’s farewell speech.
