Watch Live Stream: Gov. Rick Snyder’s 2017 State-of-the-State Address

The ongoing Flint water crisis, Michigan infrastructure needs expected to get focus in Tuesday's address in Lansing.

LANSING, MI — Gov. Rick Snyder gives his state-of-the-state address at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the State Capitol in Lansing. The Flint water crisis and Michigan’s infrastructure needs are among the topics the governor is expected to address.

Snyder has created a 21st Century Infrastructure Commission to identify long-term strategies to modernize the state’s transportation, water and sewer, energy and communications infrastructure. He is expected to ask lawmakers to take action on one of the commission’s more than 100 recommendations, the creation of an integrated asset management system.

Beyond that Snyder spokeswoman Anna Heaton said no big announcements are planned on the commission’s recommendations.

“I can tell you his focus, as far as the commission report goes, will be on the integrated asset management piece — coordination between cities, utilities and state government when planning upgrades to existing infrastructure,” Heaton told the Detroit Free Press.

The exposure of thousands of Flint residents to dangerous levels of lead in their drinking water dominated Snyder’s state-of-the-state address last year, and Snyder is expected to touch on work accomplished under $234 million appropriated so far to aide the city, MLive.com reported.

The state-of-the-state address will be Snyder’s sixth since taking office in 2011. The governor’s office has asked that people join in the conversation on Twitter by using the hashtag #MISOTS17.
