WATCH: Metro Detroit's Sky Lights Up From Unknown Object

METRO DETROIT — The burst of light that lit up southeastern Michigan's sky Wednesday morning was not a meteor, but rather appears to be the "re-entry of an unknown satellite or spent rocket body," according to the The American Meteor Society.

The object was spotted around 12:45 a.m. Wednesday morning by metro Detroit residents in Belleville, Clinton Township, Fraser, Freeland, Holly, Howell, Pontiac, Romulus, Warren and other areas.

Witnesses from Ontario and eight other states, including Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Wisconsin, West Virginia all reported seeing the object.
