Wayne Co. Man Wins $7M Jackpot After Trying New Strategy Dad Suggested

The dad told the lucky 38-year-old player to stick to the same numbers, according to the Michigan Lottery.

WAYNE COUNTY, MI — A Wayne County man took his dad's advice and won $7 million from a Michigan Lotto 47 ticket that he bought online, according to the Michigan Lottery.

"I have been playing Lotto 47 for a long time, and would always switch up my numbers," the lucky player told lottery officials. "One day, my dad told me I should pick a set of numbers and stick with them, so that’s what I did. I purchased an online subscription and have been playing the same set of numbers for a few years."

The lucky 38-year-old player, who chose to remain anonymous, matched the winning Lotto 47 numbers on May 22 (22-24-26-40-41-44) to win the $7.19 million prizes, making it the largest Lotto 47 prize ever won online, according to lottery officials.

"I saw an email from the lottery saying I’d won a prize, so I logged into my lottery account, and that’s when I saw $7.19 million pending," the lucky player told lottery officials. "I was in total shock and instantly thought how my dad had been right."

He recently visited Michigan Lottery headquarters and chose to receive his prize as a one-time lump sum of about $4.9 million, according to lottery officials.

With his winnings, the lucky player told lottery officials he plans to invest and put money into college funds for his children.

"Winning feels surreal," the lucky player told lottery officials.. "It still hasn’t sunk in that I’m a millionaire."
