Worst Potholes In Metro Detroit: How to Report Them
Like other signs of spring, potholes are coming early this year. Here's how to report them.
First, the good news: Unseasonably mild temperatures mean your face doesn’t chap and your nose doesn’t freeze shut when you step outside. Now, for the other side of that warm coin: Potholes are cropping up early.
The Michigan Department of Transportation wants to know where they are, and has created an online system to report them.
Tell Us: Where are the worst potholes in your area? Report them in the comments so other Patch readers can avoid them.
Potholes occur when snow and ice melt as part of Michigan's seasonal freeze-thaw cycles. This allows moisture to seep into the pavement, freeze, expand and thaw, creating a gap in the pavement. As vehicles drive over the gap, the pavement weakens, leading to a pothole.
