WXYZ's Malcom Maddox Ousted In Midst Of Sexual Harassment Suit

WXYZ reporter Malcom Maddox has been ousted from the company following a lawsuit that accuses him of sexual harassment in the workplace.

DETROIT, MI — WXYZ reporter Malcom Maddox has been ousted from the company following a lawsuit that accuses him of sexual harassment in the workplace, media outlets reported. Allegations began back in December, when Maddox was placed on administrative leave, but he was brought back to Channel 7 two weeks later.

Maddox has now officially left the company, station Vice President and General Manager Mike Murri told Crain’s Detroit Business in an email.

Accusations against Maddox resurfaced earlier this month when female journalist Tara Edwards sued WXYZ, alleging that for years Maddox had sexually harassed her with raunchy behavior and unsolicited sexual requests, like asking if he could urinate on her, The Free Press reported. The lawsuit also alleges that Maddox spread rumors around the workplace, suggesting he was having an affair with Edwards that included “deviant sexual acts.”

Edwards says she complained to the station, but to no avail, according to the lawsuit. Edwards reportedly left voluntarily in 2016.
