This year the Great Lake Sporting Arts Show has changed its name to The Great Lakes Sporting and Wildlife Arts Show. For the second year that promoter Lauren Kingsley is hosting the show, she decided to broaden the offerings to include not just traditional sporting arts, but also wildlife art.
“There is a certain overlap between the artisan-made tools for these traditional sports and the fine art that depicts the wildlife of their natural worlds, “ says Kingsley, the originator of the show and one of the artists herself (scarves, children’s clothes, and other textiles). “In some cases, there is no distinction at all, as in the case of Kent Lund, an artists who paints on his own hand-made oars, or Tom Serwell (of Dexter) who makes beautiful duck decoys.”
The 2013 line up of exhibitors include bamboo rod makers, painters, print-makers, gun engravers, jewelers, boat builders and more. Short descriptions of each artist and photos of their work can be found on the website GreatLakesSportingArts.com.

“Last year, our first, we had a very encouraging turnout. All the artists wanted to come back, and we were able to add quite a few for our second year,” says Kingsley. “This is an under-served segment of the art world, and under-exposed as well. These artists are amazing and people really enjoy discovering the work they do. One highlight of this year’s show will be David Riccardo, master engraver, demonstrating his craft throughout the day.”
