Dexter High School's student newspaper wins 11th Spartan Award
Dexter High School's student newspaper ranked one of the state's best for 11th time in 14 years.

Dexter High School's student publication, The Squall, won its 11th Spartan Award in 14 years from the Michigan Interscholastic Press Association at MIPA's spring conference The Spartan is MIPA's highest award for overall quality in a high school paper. Last year The Squall was inducted into the MIPA Hall of Fame for winning 9 Spartans in 10 years.
This year's critique from an out-of-state judge said, "Seldom has a student newspaper displayed so many strengths in such a convincing and consistent manner. Conscientious editing and proofreading are evident on every page of the paper. Professionalism is apparent in every area of The Squall. As readers peruse The Squall, they are seeing high school journalism at its finest. The Squall would be an ideal newspaper to use as a teaching model for high school journalism."
In addition, 25 individual students won award for their work in writing, graphics and page design. These students brought home ten first place award, the most first place awards Squall members have ever won. This year's editors-in-chief are Levi Kipke and Cameron LaFontaine.
