Let "The Wedding Singer" Blogging Begin
Follow cast member, co-producer, and Dexter resident Francyn as she works with Dexter Community Players on their summer musical, "The Wedding Singer."

I have never blogged before, so this will be an adventure. Please bear with me while I give you some background info and I promise I will blog about the show and with much shorter and more interesting posts in the coming days.
The purpose of this blog is to share my experiences as part of the cast of summer performance of The Wedding Singer, which will be presented the third weekend in July.
The last time I was on the stage was in 2003 when Ann Arbor Civic Theatre did Smile directed by Ron Baumanis. He is directing The Wedding Singer and encouraged me to try out. It took some arm twisting, but I have accepted a role, or should I say several small roles. I have also stepped on board as co-producer because the producer injured her back. She'd done much of the work already so I was willing to come in and help. I would like to share the experience and the thrill of what goes into putting on a production from both points of view.

I also have the ironic coincidence that my daughter is getting married in February and she and her fiance are in the production playing Holly (the best friend) and Glen (the groom) respectively. One of my roles is as "the mothers of the bride" to three brides in the show, including the leading role of Julia.
A little about me and theater:

I started doing theatre when I was 12 at summer camp. I continued doing it in high school and college. I graduated in 1983 from Eastern Michigan University with a degree in theater and went back to get my teaching degree in 1985. The summer of 1983, I toured with a summerstock troup called "The Rosier Players" and performed vaudeville in a big circus tent. It was there I met my husband Don, who is an incredible scene designer, builder and artist. We continued doing community theater and eventually our two children, Tally and Kyle followed suit. From 2003 to 2009, I was a very active volunteer parent for the Dexter High School Drama Club, producing most of their shows. When Kyle graduated in 2009, Don and I took a hiatus and stopped working on shows, but continued to attend the wonderful productions in this area.
Well, that's a bit about me. I hope you tune in again and follow my adventures from audition to final bows, and everything in between.
