'The Wedding Singer' Vocal Rehearsals

The next set of rehearsals were with John Tartaglia, the music director.  We went through the music, worked on the harmonies, figured out who would sing what parts, and started getting familiar with what makes a musical a musical: the music. 

Many people are familiar with the Adam Sandler, Drew Barrymore movie. This musical is a true nod to the movie and the songs only add to the charm of the familiar boy-meets-girl, boy-loses-girl, boy-gets-girl genre. The songs in this show are bright, witty, and bring back the style and flavor of the 1980s music.  

Here are a few of my favorite verses.

From “It’s Your Wedding Day” (you might recognize this)

I wrote a song six years ago
While playing in a wedding band
The word got out and suddenly
The band and I are in demand
And now couples all over Jersey
Hire me to insure their wedded bliss
All because of a tune I wrote
That tune

From “Come Out of the Dumpster”

So you're back in the dumpster
Well, that’s like a metaphor
Everyone has a dumpster
A stumbling block you can't ignore

We are fortunate that the pit for this show will have a true rock band feel with guitars, brass, pianos, percussion and many more talented musicians.

Of course, theatre is not just hard work. We have fun too. After Thursday’s rehearsal we went to Dexter’s Pub for a little cast bonding, food and drink.
