Countdown to Airplane Day: Eradicating Poverty ONE Voice at a Time

Want to make a positive difference in the world? Come to Airplane Day at 6pm on February 28th at Foggy Bottom Coffee House

Want to make a positive difference in the world? You are invited to attend Airplane Day 2015 -- and make an effort to spread awareness on global crises and to take action through ONE Club in order to ultimately eradicate extreme poverty.

This year’s 5th anniversary event specifically supports the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves, a public-private partnership which promotes the making of clean cookstoves which provide jobs, promote health, and are even environmentally friendly!

People who come to Airplane Day will be given an opportunity to make their own impact in the fight against poverty by buying beads made by women in Uganda, making phone calls to Congress, signing petitions, donating to the United Nations Foundation, winning ONE Club t-shirts, and most importantly, learning about how they can continue to help prevent extreme poverty and disease. It is a very special event unique to Dexter, Michigan. Bands play and people speak about the fight against poverty during the entire event. Make sure to come to Airplane 2015 this year!

Laurence inspired the creation of the ONE Club at Dexter High School. Airplane Day is so named because it’s the anniversary of Laurence Carolin’s arrival in the U.S. when he was adopted from his birth country of South Korea. Laurence’s family and friends promised him that his goal to eliminate extreme poverty would live on in the form of a celebration around that date. Laurence spent the last year of his life making people aware of extreme poverty and preventable disease, in the hopes that one day they would be eradicated. During his fight against cancer, Laurence donated the money from his Make-A-Wish gift to the United Nations Foundation, which works with ONE.org--a grassroots advocacy and campaigning organization that fights extreme poverty and preventable disease, particularly in Africa. ONE.org was co-founded by Bono of the rock band U2, whose music inspired Laurence, throughout his battle against cancer, to think outside of himself.
