Dexter Defeats Tecumseh 6-0 in Varsity Soccer Match

The Dexter boys' varsity soccer team came alive Tuesday to rally against Tecumseh for a 6-0 win.

Exactly 1:18 into the game, Dexter’s Bobby Toth got the game winner, off of a ball played in by Kyle Kantola. Just over three minutes later, David Innis lifted a ball to Jake Kilian, who controlled it then fired it past the Indian keeper.  

The Dreads then benefited off of two penalty kicks within the span of 58 seconds, when Bobby Toth was fouled in the box on both occasions. Corey Piorier finished the first with 34:06 left in the half and Owen Brooks followed with another finish from the spot-kick, and the 4-0 lead.

Only 12 minutes into the game, Evan Burke diverted the ball into the goal from a Nils Valdmanis corner kick. A few minutes later Dexter scored their last goal of the half.

“Tecumseh is a quality team. We had a very good start and then had some additional help with some tight calls in their box for the penalties," Dexter coach Scott Forrester said. "Our other goals were creative and the scorers had great composure to finish on the opportunities.”

When asked about the lack of scoring in the second half, Forrester said, “Their keeper made some quality saves and we didn’t get additional shots off our feet quick enough and we passed up some chances by passing the ball off. Still lacking two starters and two other players due to injuries, I think the team did well.”

Dexter is now 14-5-2 and 6-3-1 in the MHSAA Southeast Conference.

The Dreadnaughts' next match will be played at Chelsea today to wrap up the regular season.
