Dexter Girls Lacrosse Team Falls to Northville
Dreadnaughts see tough 11-4 loss with Mustangs' offense.
There were some bright spots in the Dexter girls lacrosse team’s performance Friday night in Northville, but the Dreadnaughts ultimately fell short with an 11-4 loss.
The Dreadnaughts (3-9) are in their first year as a program and girls lacrosse is still a club sport in Dexter.
Late in the first half, Dexter showed some strength on offense when it scored three straight goals in a span of four minutes.

“We do that a lot,” Dexter junior goalie Emily Gillis said. “We get down and then we score a few goals all at once.”
Northville led 3-0 before Dexter sophomore Megan Flocken scored the first of her two goals with 6:01 left in the first half.

Lauren Schoof scored at 2:11 and Flocken scored again at 1:26 for the Dreadnaughts.
The rally put a fire in the belly of Northville coach Jamie Francek and the Mustangs responded.
In the second half, Northville outscored Dexter 7-1.
“I was disappointed,” Dexter coach Amelia Maturo said. “We played well in the first half.”
Dexter has held its own this season against tough rivals Ann Arbor Pioneer, Ann Arbor Huron and Ann Arbor Skyline high schools.
“They all have middle school programs and Northville has a middle school program and that makes a big difference,” Maturo said. “Everyone on our team is basically a beginner.”
The win improves Northville’s overall record to 12-7. The Mustangs were scheduled to play South Lyon Unified High School on Friday, but the Lions had to cancel due to unspecified reasons.
“We’re just going to go and play our next game as well as we can,” Gillis said. “We’re a first-year program so these things are expected.”
Dexter will next travel to Swartz Creek High School for a matchup on Monday.
