The Dexter High School girls' soccer team shared the wealth as seven different players scored in their second round district victory over the Phoenix from Ypsilanti on Thursday.
The Dreadnaughts started their advancement to the district finals six minutes into the game, when Olivia Vollmers passed a ball in the ground to Alex Dinser to redirect it into the goal. It took the Dreadnaughts 13 minutes before they scored their second goal, when Dinser played a ball to Nicole Lucas, who controlled it and shot it into the upper corner of the goal.

Seven minutes into the second half, Dexter started their scoring again when Bethany Shiguango controlled a pass from Courtney Harber and fired a shot in from the top of the box for a 6-0 lead. Five minutes later, Celina Sunesen, a foreign exchange student from Denmark, playing out of her central defender role and was moved up to forward, received a pass from Harber and shot it in for the score.
With 24:16 left on the clock, a pass from Jamie Verbal placed the ball past the Phoenix keeper for the 8-0 victory.
Keepers Sarah Silvasi and Stephanie Mesivech combined for the shut-out, Dexter’s 15th shut-out of the season.
“Ypsilanti's coach has more of a challenge than just teaching his players technique and tactics,” coach Scott Forrester said. “He has to change the whole mentality of the players, and even the parents, to have them commit to the whole season. That being the case, I admire the players that were there, as they faced us with great spirit and determination.”
Dexter will face Milan on Saturday for a 10 a.m. district final match up.
